The Morven chapter of Las Amigas, Inc. will hold its annual Virtuous Woman Program on April 27 at 4 p.m. at Harris Chapel AME Zion Church in Morven.
This year’s theme is “Virtuous Women: Intentional and Purpose Driven.”
Each year, a woman is recognized by Las Amigas for living a life of service and dedication to helping others in Anson County. This woman is identified as a Virtuous Woman and holds the position for one year.
Susie Huntley of Wadesboro, was selected last year.
This year’s speaker for the event is Minister Barbara Thomas of Lilesville.
Thomas is married to Deacon Weaver Thomas and they have four children and eight grandchildren. She has been employed as a deputy clerk for the Superior Court system of Anson County since 2008 and became assistant deputy clerk in December.
Prior to working with the court system, Thomas was employed by the Anson County School system for 10 years as an administrative assistant from 1997-2007.
“I was saved in 1985,” Thomas said, describing her salvation experience. “As I began to learn more about Christ, I realized that I could do nothing without Him.”
Thomas became licensed as a minister Aug. 30, 2015. As a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Tony W. Barr, Sr., Thomas served as a deaconess, chairwoman of the Greeters Ministry, and member of the pastoral search committee.
She currently serves on the administrative team at Ebenezer, Willing Vessel praise dance team, and as a Sunday school teacher. Thomas attended Apex School of Theology in 2015. She is also the recipient of the 2018 Community Doves Leadership and Service Award.
Thomas says her goal is “to be able to continue to grow in Christ, so that I may be able to apply the teachings to real life experiences. By doing so, (I) will continue to build my Christian character and gain more knowledge of the Bible.”
