WADESBORO — Four patrol officers of the Wadesboro Police Department were promoted to the rank of sergeant during a ceremony held on Friday, May 15 at the Wadesboro Park. All participants practiced social distancing and remained at least six feet apart during its duration.
The officers who were promoted included two female officers, D’Anya Chance and Tracey Brewer, as well as two male officers, Kazimierz “Casey” Zapadka and Donald Ray Morton.
“We’ve been blessed with some great officers,” said Wadesboro Police Chief Thedis Spencer, “and we’ve haven’t been able to promote more sergeants in a while so it was about time.”
The ceremony began with an invocation led by Pastor Michael McLeod followed by a speech from Wadesboro Town Manager David Edwards.
The event was concluded with a dinner catered by Smithfield Chicken. Desserts were provided by Chief Spencer’s wife, Stephana Anita Spencer.
“It was a great, beautiful day,” remembered Spencer. “We were blessed to have such a pretty day for the ceremony.”
“With everything that’s going on right now, I think the Wadesboro Police Department needed something like this,” said Chief Spencer. “It was a big boost to morale. It was really nice for the young officers to see that, with training and hard work, they can move up the ranks.”
