WADESBORO — Wadesboro Rotary Club volunteers cleaned up the Old Westview Cemetery for a day of service on April 10.
The historically black cemetery, located on the west side of Wadesboro, has significant maintenance issues. Even with the cemetery’s nonprofit organization, Friends of Old Westview Cemetery, working on general upkeep, the group lacks the proper funds to maintain the 5 acres of land.
Wadesboro Rotary Club helped by mowing, trimming and cleaning up the gravesites. This was a “spring cleaning” effort to beautify the cemetery.
“The Wadesboro Rotary Club has a long tradition of community service projects, from blood drives to packing backpacks with food for school children who might not get enough to eat, to supporting the Planetarium and Science Center,” Rotary President John Marek said in a press release. “Helping clean up Old Westview is another example of how we are involved in making Wadesboro a better place to live.”
