WADESBORO — A beloved southern fast food chain has brought on an Anson native as the Senior Director of Communications.

Stacey McCray started this role at Bojangles on April 19. For the past four years, McCray worked with the fast food chain as the Charlotte agency’s vice president of public relations. She helped further the brand’s message by building stronger community relationships and providing strategic counsel to support corporate efforts.

Her previous experience with Bojangles will prove to be a seamless transition as she will continue to keep the brand’s momentum going.

“We knew we were looking for a strategic communicator that could help drive Bojangles’ growth, and Stacey has been a key contributor toward the success of our brand,” Jackie Woodward, chief marketing officer of Bojangles, said in a press release. “She is uniquely positioned to lead us as we set out sight on the future because she knows who we are and where we’re headed, and we’re thrilled to have her on board.”

McCray will be responsible for driving internal and external communications and overseeing the execution of that strategy with senior management, staff and agencies. She will report directly to Woodward and Bojangles CEO Jose Armario.

McCray’s experience stems well past Bojangles. For 17 years she worked at Luquire George Andrews, helped promote Charlotte’s hosting of the 2012 Democratic National Convention and oversaw high-profile campaigns for Belk, Snyder’s-Lance, National Gypsum and UNC Charlotte. She worked as the director of public relations for Johnson C. Smith University and an external communications supervisor for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication from Wake Forest University and then received a master’s degree in public relations from the University of South Carolina.

“Bojangles has become like family to me, and having that familiarity in a professional transition makes all the difference in the world,” McCray said in a press release. “I am excited to hit the ground running in a place that already feels like home as we continue to leverage strategic communications to take this beloved brand to new heights.”
