Family farmers in Anson and other counties bordering the state line who suffered crop losses in the South Carolina floods can apply for emergency loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency.
On Oct. 26, President Barack Obama declared a major disaster in South Carolina based on damages and losses caused by severe storms and flooding that occurred from Oct. 1-23.
In accordance with Section 321(a) of the Consolidated Farm and Rural Development Act, six adjacent counties in North Carolina are named as contiguous counties where eligible family farmers may qualify for FSA emergency loan assistance. These counties are Anson, Union, Mecklenburg, Richmond, Scotland and Robeson.
Suzanne Simpson of the local FSA said Anson County farmers can apply for emergency loans for physical and production losses by June 27, 2016.
The local office is located at 3230-A Presson Road, Monroe, and has office hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Simpson said any farmer who suffered a physical or production loss should contact the FSA office for additional information.
