POLKTON — On Dec. 11, Hands of a Sportsman held its 2nd annual Anson County Youth Deer Hunt.

Local guides and volunteers hosted 20 kids and their families for a morning and afternoon hunt. They also held a day for target practice prior to the hunt.

Kids were mentored by local guides, and they received backpacks full of goodies and a cooler. They also had lunch after the hunt. It was a big event with people volunteering their land and resources to support it, according to host Brian Allen.

“This hunt was a huge success for the community, and eight kids shot their first deer,” said Hands of a Sportsman founder David Hinceman.

Kids that shot their first deer included Samuel Hoover, Tony Boatwright, Susannah Rogers, Dylan Snow, Owen Burns, Austin White, and Isabel Cashion. They shot bucks, does and button heads.

Hands of a Sportsman teaches kids with disabilities how to hunt and gives them the opportunity to both enjoy the sport and the outdoors for the first time. The organization focuses on teaching children how to inspire, motivate, and overcome. To learn more about Hands of a Sportsman check out their website at www.HandsofaSportsman.org or their Facebook.
