Homeless families and victims of domestic violence in Anson County have a place to go for temporary housing, counseling, and the education in life skills and financial literacy they need to get back on their feet. Anson County Homes of Hope, established in 2018, provides these services to help families overcome their obstacles and meet their goals.
“We work with families who want to be successful and self-sufficient,” executive director Chipper Long said. “We are doing our best to counteract the lack of public funds available to rent or purchase housing, due to the high level of poverty and low availability of affordable housing.”
Homes of Hope has bought and renovated a duplex in Wadesboro that houses two families and is converting another home into three apartments, one of which is reserved for victims and survivors of domestic violence. Long said he is grateful for the generosity of Anson-area residents, community partners and foundations, crediting them for the organization’s success.
The Home of Hope fall fund drive, which runs through Dec. 31, is helping renovate and furnish the home now being converted into apartments. Area residents still have time to contribute, and gifts to the 501(c)(3) charity are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
Gifts may be mailed to Homes of Hope at PO Box 205, Wadesboro, NC 28170, or made through the website at www.ansoncountyhomesofhope.com. Homes of Hope may also accept in-kind donations of building materials, fixtures and furnishings.
