Breakfast with Santa was moved to Saturday after a vote of the Uptown Wadesboro Inc. board on Dec. 1.

Breakfast with Santa was originally planned for Dec. 5, but was moved to 9-11 a.m. Dec. 12 to better accommodate the group’s plans. Tickets for the event are $8 for adults and $5 for children, and the breakfast will include pancakes, syrup, bacon, coffee and orange juice. It will be held at Oliver’s Hometown Restaurant and Bar in Wadesboro.

Rather than setting up two separate times for children to come as the board had previously discussed, the group decided to have children drop in any time between 9-11 a.m. that day to enjoy breakfast and giving their wish list to Santa.

The board also decided to operate without a chairperson for the next few months, since no one volunteered for the role. Until one is appointed, the board will operate as a whole without the chair.

Board member Elizabeth Schafer suggested the uptown group improve its event record-keeping to help with details for events including Breakfast with Santa, the flags placed outside the courthouse for 9/11 and its other projects. She said the list should include where supplies are held, where volunteers typically come from, what dates the event was previously held on and other data.

The lack of information on previous events leaves a gap for members who haven’t helped with the projects before, she said.

“You don’t know what’s been done in previous years, so you don’t know how to make it happen,” Schafer said.

Scott Collier echoed the thought. “If you asked me to name the top 10 events this group does, I don’t know if I can do it,” he said. “You feel like you have to be on the board a year and go around the full year to get it all.”

The board decided to keep a folder on each event logging the basic details.

Dr. Don Altieri provided the financial report in treasurer Jennifer Tarlton’s absence. As of Nov. 30, the board had $3,545.09, of which $2,038.67 was restricted for the organization’s façade grants.

Altieri said that the group still had not heard from the Yost Foundation or Smith Trust by the time of the meeting. Uptown Wadesboro recently sent both Yost and Smith requests for additional funding for the façade grants.

The board marked January as its planning meeting for 2016 activities. Alex Sewell suggested that next year, the group could set up a synthetic ice-skating rink similar to the one purchased for the Richmond Plaza shopping center in Rockingham this year. While it was not voted on, several board members lent their support.

The board’s next meeting will be at 4 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Chamber of Commerce in Wadesboro.
