Man facing meth charges in Anson’s 1st bust of 2016

It didn’t take long for Anson County to record its first meth bust of 2016.

Anson deputies on Saturday arrested 41-year-old Herman Dempsey Pierce Jr. on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, felony possession or distribution of a meth precursor and misdemeanor child abuse, according to jail records.

Pierce has no record of criminal convictions in North Carolina and had no pending charges at the time of his arrest.

Anson County had the fourth-highest number of meth lab busts among North Carolina’s 100 counties in 2015, according to State Bureau of Investigation records. Neighboring Richmond County ranked No. 3 in the state.

Pierce was booked into the Anson County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on the charges Jan. 12.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
