United Way of the Central Carolinas announced June 12 that it is sending $76,400 in funding to various programs and organizations in Anson County.

Beginning July 1, the United Way will invest the funding in eight partner agencies within the county. The 2015-16 funding was announced after United Way’s board of directors voted to approve the recommendations of its volunteer-led Community Investment Councils.

Feed My Lambs’ food program will receive the largest amount, at $20,000, followed by HOLLA! with $15,000. Other agencies receiving a portion of the money include: Union County Crisis Assistance Ministry’s crisis intervention program in Anson County, $11,000; Red Cross Carolina Piedmont Region, $8,400; Anson County Domestic Violence Coalition, $6,500; Anson County Partnership for Children’s literacy programs, $6,500; Boy Scouts of America’s Central N.C. Council, $5,000; and Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council, $4,000.

“Anson County donors stepped up and produced another strong campaign to help their neighbors in need, so United Way is proud to invest this money right back into the local community,” said Richard Heins, regional vice president of county operations for United Way.

United Way of the Central Carolinas spread its more than $17 million in funding across five counties, including Anson. According to a press release, “The funds will support 154 programs at 80 agencies, ultimately helping approximately 284,000 men, women and children.”

The newly-approved funding levels will begin with the start of United Way’s next fiscal year on July 1.
