Hampton B. Allen Library is spending the summer months sparking curiousity in the minds of teens.

The Teen Summer Reading program featured the Summer Solstice and a UFO video for their first two events.

Wednesday’s event, “Unidentified Flying Objects … Identified,” featured a documentary titled “Unidentified: Inside America’s UFO Investigation.”

It spoke about a group of former military and government officials, that are on a search for the evidence that UFOs exist, and that the government needs to do something about it.

The first incident the film featured was Nov. 14, 2004, in the Pacific Ocean, about 100 miles southwest of San Diego, California. The USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group, which included the nuclear-powered carrier and the missile cruiser USS Princeton, were conducting a series of drills prior to deployment in the Persian Gulf.

As two pilots were practicing, they received word from the ship via radio, that their location was compromised. Once going deeper down towards their second location, they noticed a tic-tac shaped aircraft.

According to the documentary, the aircraft had no wings, no rotars and could travel at really fast speeds in seconds. Video documentation was gathered, and later released to the public.

Participants shared their beliefs, with everyone saying that they believe that anything is possible.

The craft was to make a Universe of Stars, using a mason jar, paint, cotton balls, water and glitter.

The first event, “Six Things to Know about the Longest Day of the Year,” featured a craft section on sun catchers, where participants had a chance to make their own using jar tops, paint, water and plastic covers.

This event prepared attendees for the longest day of the year, June 20. It is the day in the Northern Hemisphere with the most daylight and the shortest night.

Caroline Hightower said that the events are to get teens interested in the library and their events. She added that they are also to educate, and spark interest in topics that involve the universe.

The next teen program is July 10 at 11 a.m.
