The former Anson Community Hospital building on Morven Road, as well as the two 1913 red brick buildings on the property, are slated to be demolished by the end of next month.
Although Carolinas HealthCare System could not provide a demolition date, assistant vice president Gary Henderson said the process of preparing the buildings to be destroyed began on July 6.
According to Caroline Griswell, corporate communications associate in Carolinas HealthCare’s Corporate Communications, Marketing & Outreach Department, the schedule for demolition is as follows:
- July 14 — Site fence to be installed
- July 15 — Asbestos abatement to commence
- Aug. 10 — Demolition of the 1913 “red brick” buildings
- Aug. 31 — Demolition of the Main Anson Community Hospital building
- Oct. 31 — Site cleaned, graded, re-seeded and returned to Anson County
There have been some rumors that the buildings would be imploded, but Henderson said that would not be the case. Instead, wrecking balls and bulldozers will tear down the structures. He added that neighboring home owners have been notified, as well as the staff and residents of the adjacent nursing home.
