A crowd gathered on the town square in Wadesboro on Tuesday evening to enjoy a gospel singing as part of the weeklong celebration of the 30th anniversary of the filming of “The Color Purple” in Anson and Union counties.

Rev. Reynard Little and a group of community musicians played first, then the choir of Rock Hill Baptist Church in Lilesville performed.

The event was part of a week-long celebration honoring the 30th anniversary of the filming of “The Color Purple” in Anson and Union Counties.

Other events of the week included a themed Bach’s Lunch, a meet-and-greet with extras and others involved with the filming (See Related Stories, A1), and two showings of the movie at the Ansonia Theatre, plus a variety of events in Marshville.
