ANSON — The passing of a member of law enforcement remains a sobering moment for any community and it is with great sadness Sheriff Scott Howell announces Lt. Tracy Wilhoit’s watch over the citizens of Anson County ended Sunday.

“Lt. Wilhoit began his career in law enforcement as a detention officer in the Anson County Jail. Later, he became a patrol deputy, followed by being promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Lt. Wilhoit faithfully served the citizens of Anson County for 28 years,” said Howell, in public statement remembering his friend.

Sheriff Howell and Wadesboro Police Department’s Chief Chewning request citizens to join them in praying for the Wilhoit family during this very difficult time. Prayer for law enforcement staff is requested as employees grapple with the loss of a beloved member of their community.

The cause of death for Lt. Wilhoit has not been released at this time.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 22 at First Baptist Church in Wadesboro. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 21 at Leavitt Funeral Home.
