WADESBORO — Several gunshots were fired into an apartment building on Sept. 9 at the intersection of Morgan Street and White Store Road.

The Wadesboro Police Department received a call around 1:15 p.m. regarding shootings. An officer at the police department building, the back of which faces the intersection in question, also heard those shots going off, according to Police Chief Thedis Spencer. The officer observed several shots, between 15 and 18 rounds, go off towards the apartment building.

“The officer looked to the left and saw two males in a wooded bush area,” Spencer said. “It became a foot chase and a K-9 was called in to try and locate them.”

The gunshots went into one of the apartments located at the intersection, as well as a vehicle. No one was hurt in this incident. The suspects were not found, but the K-9 did locate a weapon, according to Spencer. The department is looking for two to three suspects at this time. No arrests have been made as of Sept. 14.

Bobby Chambers rents the apartment where the gunshots were fired. Chambers said the first rounds of shots lasted about fifteen seconds. He was about to get up off the ground, but halted when the second round went off, this time hitting the side of his apartment.

The bullets went through two layers of glass in his front window, then through his walls. There are bullet holes in his closet, the closet door, and even into the lobby of the apartment building.

Chambers said he normally sits on his couch, which is located right below the front window, but this time he just happened to be in the back kitchen when the shots went off. He hid on the ground behind a wall, away from the sides of the apartment. He thought to himself, “This is it.”

By the time the shootings ceased, he saw police outside.
