WADESBORO — Four Anson County Commissioners were sworn into office on Dec. 1 during the board’s monthly meeting.

Two of the four commissioners sworn in are new to the board: J.D. Bricken of District 1 and Robert Mims of District 3. They join re-elected commissioners Jarvis Woodburn and Harold Smith and the rest of the board to represent the county.

Once paperwork was signed and the new commissioners joined the semicircle desk, nominations for Vice Chair and Chairman began.

Even though he is knew to the board, Lawrence Gatewood nominated Mims to become the new Vice Chair. In a 4-3 vote, Dr. Jim Sims beat out the newbie to become the board’s new Vice Chair.

The Commissioners unanimously voted for Woodburn to become the Chairman after he served as Vice Chair.

“I really appreciate it and will do my best to not let you know,” Woodburn said as he moved to his new seat at the center of the desk.
