WADESBORO — A South Piedmont Community College professor prepares to run his 38th marathon on May 1 in Myrtle Beach S.C.

Jim McAlhaney, a psychology and religion instructor as SPCC, is running to benefit student scholarships and emergency assistance funds through the SPCC Foundation.

The SPCC Foundation, a non-profit organization, receives tax-exempt contributions to support the college and students. Gifts can help support student scholarships, instructional equipment, new programs, endowment funds and capital projects.

McAlhaney began running 16 years ago. He has completed, to date, 37 full marathons and 21 half marathons.

You can donate a dollar or more for each mile McAlhaney runs. For example if you make a $1 donation and he runs 26.2 miles, it will be a $26.60 donation.

“As an instructor, I’ve had the opportunity to talk with many of my students who share about the personal stresses of financial hardship.” McAlhaney said on the SPCC website. “I know that finances can be a barrier to achieving academic goals and I wanted to do something positive that would not only bring the need to light, but could help lessen the burden.

To donate, visit www.spcc.edu/run or you can send a check to SPCC Foundation and include “Run for SPCC Students” in the memo. Send checks to P.O. Box 126 Polkton, N.C. 28135.
