PEACHLAND — Peachland residents are needed to help with the first organized community volunteer roadside litter sweep on May 29.
Clean up begins at 8:30 a.m. and goes until noon. Volunteers should meet at the Lawyer Springs Church parking lot at 45 Upper White Store Road.
The route covers a 2.5 mile stretch of Upper White Store Road between the Highway 74 overpass, then southwest towards the Hasty Road intersection.
The Peachland Fire Department EMT unit will be set up at the base location. An Anson County Deputy Sheriff will also be stationed and rolling throughout the route for safety precautions. Warning signs will be placed along the roadside to alert drivers of the litter clean up.
Bojangles donated biscuits, coffee and juice for participants. Volunteers will also be given high visibility vests, gloves and garbage bags provided by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
It is advised for volunteers to wear long pants, sturdy shoes or boots, a long sleeve shirt and a hat to protect from the sun. Bring with you sunscreen, hand sanitizer, bug spray and water.
Children ages 12 through 18 are welcome to participate with a parent or guardian with a permission slip.
After the litter clean up, volunteers are invited to go to the Peachland cemetery to place flags on the veterans graves for Memorial Day.
