ANSON — Santa Claus made a special trip from the North Pole during his busiest season to visit the kids of Anson County this weekend.
He visited many spots this weekend in Morven, Polkton, and Wadesboro including: Ma’s Kitchen, Morven Park, Mineral Springs Baptist Church, South Piedmont Community College’s Taylor-Lockhart Center, La Suerte De Sake, and Indie Studios.
First, he stopped by Ma’s Kitchen with Mrs. Claus to have breakfast and hot chocolate with the kids. He also helped Ma’s Kitchen give out gifts and items to help those in need such as clothes, coats, and shoes. Owners said they had a great turnout and gave out fifty gift bags.
“It was a really good turnout, and he was the perfect, old school Santa Claus,” one of the owners, Claudia Goodwin, said.
Santa was then just down the road at Morven Park handing out toys, taking photos, reading Christmas stories, and even singing karaoke with the community.
“This is such a great, great thing, a great challenge for me and a great pleasure for me to be able to give back to my family and the loved ones, to all children. That’s part of this community to let them know that there is a better way and together we can stand, divided we will fall,” Santa said. “We love everyone. We thank everyone for the pictures and everyone that came out to support us. We thank the Holla Center, Mrs. Melton and everyone else that put this together. God bless you, good night!”
He then took a tour of Mineral Springs Baptist Church’s Light Show whose displays were created by the youth. He even zip-lined to visit Mrs. Claus at her display and had some s’mores and other refreshments with his friends Frosty, Anna, Elsa, and the Grinch in tow.
He also was spotted at Anson County Partnership for the Children’s Carpool Cinema where he watched The Grinch and taught the real-life Grinch how to take photos with children. According to the Partnership for the Children’s executive director Caroline Goins, they had a great turnout and everyone really enjoyed seeing Santa and the Grinch.
Santa started feeling famished so he stopped by Wadesboro’s La Suerte De Sake for great Mexican food and crafts with the children before stopping by Uptown’s Indie Studios to check out Ansonian art. Maybe some of it inspired his next toys!
Anson County is grateful that Santa stepped away from the toy factory to tour the region and provide a festive surprise for the children.
