The Tractor Supply Co. in Wadesboro had the most successful 4-H fundraiser in the district, raising more than $2,000.

Sixty percent of the funds stayed in the county, giving Anson County 4-H a $1,234 boost. The remaining funds were given to the national and state 4-H programs.

The fundraiser was held last fall, but the store presented the check to Anson County 4-H extension agent Roshunda Terry on Friday.

Tractor Supply ranked first in its district and third in its region in the fundraiser, selling more than 2,000 paper clovers to donors.

“This is the biggest we’ve ever done,” store manager Dan Ward said. “We asked local mom-and-pop shops for donations and we asked customers who came in.”

Tractor Supply will host its spring paper clover fundraiser for 4-H from April 13-24, and will do another fundraiser in the fall, as it has done every year since 2011.

“We ask that more people come to support 4-H through buying paper clovers,” Terry said. “It goes to a worthy cause.”

Terry said the funds will be used for the county’s 4-H summer programs, available for children ages 5-14, and will help keep the cost of the week-long camp lower than it would be otherwise.

While the dates for the summer camp have not yet been announced, Terry did say that parents can expect their students to come home with brochures from school in early May.

The Summer Adventure Camp will be $30 per week for each camper. The week will be themed, but the details have not yet been set.

Terry said that the Anson County Cooperative Extension office is considering holding three or five weeks of camps this year for children ages 5-14, and that children do not have to be in 4-H to enroll in the summer camp.
