MORVEN — Anson County deputies charged a Morven woman with murder in the shooting death of her boyfriend last Thursday.

Christa Anita Colson is accused of killing Kim Campbell, 37, on Feb. 4, according to a warrant for her arrest She was taken into custody at 4:45 p.m. that day.

Lt. Josh Beam of the Anson County Sheriff’s Office said Campbell was Colson’s boyfriend.

“Basically, what happened is during the course of an argument that morning, she retrieved a gun and shot him once in the chest,” Beam said. “He ran to a nearby residence but died at that residence.”

Beam said Campbell made it to the front porch of the other house before he died.

The sheriff’s office has not determined a motive or the reason for the argument.

“All we’ve really got is that she shot him,” Beam said.

Beam said a handgun was used in the shooting, but did not know to whom the gun was registered.

The sheriff’s office has not received calls about Campbell’s home before. Beam’s office has found no history of reports of domestic violence from that address.

Colson was booked into the Anson County Jail without bond on the first-degree murder charge. She is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 16. Beam said he is not aware of any additional pending charges.

Colson has no record of criminal convictions in North Carolina and no other pending charges. All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

This case marks Anson’s first homicide investigation of 2016.

No one has been charged in the last fatal shooting reported in the county in 2015. In that case, Tadarrell Durrall Lee, 38, was found dead after he was shot multiple times at a house in Peachland on Dec. 17.
