MORVEN — The Morven chapter of Las Amigas, Inc. observed its Founders Day at Harris Chapel AME Zion Church in Morven on Feb. 14. Each year the organization attends a local church in the community to pay special tribute to the group’s founders.

Las Amigas is a national, public service, charitable, fundraising women’s organization founded by the late Dora R. Mason and the late Mary Q. Moore on Feb. 5, 1957 in Charlotte.

Las Amigas’ vision continues to unfold as chapters in Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. reach out to help others.

“Together, members are building an organization that will flourish and be a well-recognized leader among community service organizations nationally and internationally,” Joletha Little, president of the Morven chapter, said in a press release.

The Morven chapter’s founder is Winnie Bennett. That chapter has been active in Anson County since 1987. As part of the National Las Amigas, Inc., the Morven chapter is a nonprofit organization that is within a network of women working together to enhance, enrich and improve the lives of citizens from all walks of life.

“It is our goal to continue working and serving our Morven community and county as a whole,” Little said.
