LILESVILLE — Faith-Based Center of Hope recently honored Flowers’ Barber Shop, located in Lilesville, for its community service and volunteer work for others.

James Flowers, owner and barber, has cut hair for more than 47 years. Flowers’ main customers include Faith-Based Center of Hope and Toys for Tots executive board member William Lafayette “Gumby” Sturdivant Sr.and Wadesboro Police Chief Thedis Spencer.

Flowers cut “Mr. Gumby’s” hair for 45 years.

“The dedication Mr. Flowers has to this profession is amazing,” Faith-Based Center of Hope CEO Vancine Sturdivant said. “He will open his shop for one person and take care of them just like he would for a crowd. Mr. Flowers is truly an advocate for the citizens, especially our youth in Anson County. We thank God for him.”

Flowers is married to Margaret Flowers and they have two girls. He is a trustee at Chilsom Grove Baptist Church.
