WADESBORO — Technicians from SERVPRO of Anson, Stanly, and Richmond Counties, a cleanup and property damage restoration franchise, met with Wadesboro and Anson County first responders at the Walmart parking lot on Friday, May 1 to disinfect and sanitize their vehicles free of charge.
“When everything happened with COVID-19, we realized our emergency providers are going through a difficult time,” said SERVPRO of Anson, Stanly, and Richmond Counties Program and Business Development Manager Amanda Duty. “We wanted to provide them a service, to clean and sanitize their cars because we’re in that line of work.”
The technicians cleaned over 90 vehicles on May 1. Thirty-two of those vehicles belonged to Anson County Sheriff’s Department. The remainder belonged to the Wadesboro Police Department.
All technicians wore PPE during the sanitizing process.
“We apply an EPA approved disinfectant to the interior of the vehicle,” explained Duty. “Then, we shut the door and let the vehicle sit for about 10 minutes. After that, we open up the doors of the vehicle and let it air out. We wipe down both the inside and the outside, all the main touch points like door handles and steering wheels. At that point, it’s considered clean and sanitized.”
While the emergency vehicles were sanitized free of charge, the price rates of this procedure vary depending on the vehicle, under normal circumstances. Individuals requesting a quote for their vehicle are encouraged to call the SERVPRO office at (704) 474-7190.
Shaun C. and Kimberly S. Morgan have owned the SERVPRO of Anson, Stanly, Richmond Counties for nine years this month. According to their website, they “specialize in the cleanup and restoration of residential and commercial property after a fire, smoke, or water damage.”
In addition to property damage restoration, they can also mitigate asbestos, mold, and mildew from homes and businesses, as well as bio-hazard and crime-scene clean-up. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, demand for these services has gone up.
“We’ve received several calls from businesses within the community,” said Duty. “Some people just want to be proactive and knowing what would the procedure be if their business becomes contaminated. Others have hired to go ahead and come clean their business or home.”
SERVPRO of Anson, Stanly, and Richmond Counties, plans to offer its services free of charge to more first responders in the future.
“We are working on scheduling additional events throughout the community,” said Duty. “We’ll have one in Albermarle and throughout the other areas within Richmond, Union, and Stanly Counties at a later date.”
