It is with great sadness the Anson County Sheriff’s Office reports the untimely death of Lt. Tracy Wilhoit. Lt. Wilhoit age 50, passed away at his home on Sunday August 18, 2024. He was a lifelong resident of Anson County, having never lived more than 10 miles from his childhood home. Lt. Wilhoit was a 28-year veteran of the Anson County Sheriff’s Office. He began his career in law enforcement as a Detention Officer in the Anson County Jail. Later, he became a Patrol Deputy, followed by being promoted to Shift Sargeant, and then moved into the Civil Division where he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

Sheriff Howell expressed that Lt. Wilhoit was an ambassador for the Sheriff’s Office for many years. Tracy had a big heart and would help anyone in any way that he could. He was an officer that you could always depend on to complete any task. Lt. Tracy Wilhoit will surely be missed by the Anson County Sheriff’s Office and the entire county.
