The Anson County Board of Elections bid farewell to longtime member Capt. James Paxton during a special candidate filing approval meeting on Tuesday, and welcomed his replacement to the board.

Paxton’s fellow board members thanked him for his service to the board. “It has been a joy and a pleasure working with Captain Paxton,” board chairwoman Rochelle Williams said. “We will miss him, we love him, and we appreciate all the hard work he’s done.”

Director Steve Adams and secretary Tracy Baynard also thanked Paxton. Williams also recognized the board as a whole. “We have worked harmoniously as a board,” she said. ” I think we have made some great strides and made changes we’d hoped would be made long ago.”

Paxton will be replaced by Tracy Little, of Polkton.

The new board will be sworn in on Monday.

Election chief judges and judges will be appointed for their two-year terms on Aug. 18 at 5 p.m.

The board also approved the list of candidates who have filed for elections. A total of 35 candidates filed for the positions of Ansonville mayor and council members, Lilesville mayor and commissioners, McFarlan mayor and council members, Morven mayor and council members, Peachland mayor and council members, Polkton mayor and commissioners, and Wadesboro mayor and council members.
