Body found in truck of burning car
MORVEN — The Anson County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a homicide in the Morven area after a body was discovered in a vehicle fire.
A Morven resident first called 911 early afternoon on Saturday, March 6, to report a fire and smoke. When the Morven Fire Department responded to Peru Road, firefighters saw a vehicle in flames just off the road.
While putting out the fire and checking around the scene, the firefighters discovered a body in the trunk of the car. The department notified law enforcement and the sheriff’s office got involved.
The vehicle was completely torched and the body could not be immediately identified. The identity will be released after an autopsy report is complete. Lieutenant Brian Tice expects that report to take longer than usual due to the severe damage of the scorched remains. He believes by next week they will have a name.
This is currently an on-going investigation with no suspects at the time, according to Tice. There were also no recent reports of a missing person in the area as of March 8.
The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case, as well as the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms and explosives (ATF).
