Anson deputies arrest man on fraud, assault warrants

Anson County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Richmond County felon Saturday on outstanding warrants accusing him of forgery, fraud and assault.

Deputies jailed 24-year-old Michael Dequan Johnson at 1:58 a.m. after serving the warrants, according to booking records. He’s being held under a combined $11,500 secured bond.

Johnson is charged with two counts each of obtaining property by false pretense and communicating threats and one count each of forgery of instrument and assault on a female. One of the communicating threats charges stems from a warrant taken out in Randolph County.

Johnson was released from Scotland Correctional Institution in July 2013 after serving about 2 years of a 3-year, 2-month sentence on November 2011 convictions in a Richmond County shooting case. He completed his parole in April 2014.

N.C. Division of Adult Correction records show Johnson was convicted on five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied property.

Johnson is scheduled to appear in Richmond County District Court on the charges Nov. 2, according to the Anson County Jail.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
