WADESBORO — Governor Roy Cooper announced Wingate University alumnus and Monroe native as the new District Court judge in Cumberland County on June 11.
Cull Jordan III graduated from Wingate University in 1988 where he majored in history and minored in English. He went on to receive his juris doctorate at North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2001.
The District 12 seat in which Jordan was appointed to was previously held by Judge Edward Pone, who stepped down in May of 2020.
Jordan’s impressive resume includes working for the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office and the Brady Law Firm where he prosecuted and defended cases in both District and Superior Court. He also worked at a private law firm before returning to the D.A’s office for a second time.
In 2008 he joined Smith, Dickey & Dempster P.A. in Fayetteville and has since been made a partner.
Jordan also served on several boards of directors including the Boys and Girls Club, the local bar association and on the board of trustees of the Arts Council for Fayetteville and Cumberland County.
He is a member of the Cumberland County Young Lawyers, the Cumberland County Bar Grievance Committee and the Legal Advisory Committee of Cumberland County.
Gov. Cooper also appointed Timothy Gould as superior court judge in Rowan County on June 11.
“These new judges are leaders in their district and bring years of experience to the courts,” Cooper said in a press release. “I am confident they will serve the people with dedication and honor.”
