“I would like to say that I have observed Sergeant Owen many times in the courtroom, and I have been all over the state, I have never seen a man that takes control of a courtroom and runs it properly. No one has done a better job that I have witnessed in this state,” said Anson County Attorney Scott Forbes.

WADESBORO — Sergeant Walter Owen stood side by side with Sheriff Scott Howell, as County Attorney Scott Forbes read the resolution honoring him for his law enforcement service at the County Commissioner Board meeting held on Tuesday, January 16.

Forbes began by saying, “I would like to say that I have observed Sergeant Owen many times in the courtroom, and I have been all over the state, I have never seen a man that takes control of a courtroom and runs it properly. No one has done a better job that I have witnessed in this state,” affirmed Forbes.

Owen began his career with the Anson County Sheriff’s office on September 10, 2012, assigned as bailiff at the Anson County Courthouse. With commitment and dedication, Owen has persevered in his service and accomplishments in law enforcement. Sergeant Owens officially retired from duty on November 30, 2023.

“In accordance with the North Carolina general statute chapter 20 article 187.2 governing boards are authorized to honor a retirement law enforcement officer by presenting the badge worn during office as well as the service weapon carried during their years of service,” declared Forbes. “As a token of appreciation to Sergeant Walter Owen for his many years of service in law enforcement in Anson County, the Anson County Board of Commissioners hereby formally exercises the authority granted by the general statutes of North Carolina by awarding the badge worn by Sergeant Owen in his dedicated service to the citizens of Anson County.”

Further acknowledging the county’s immense appreciation to him for his service, the board also awarded Owen his service weapon.

“Thank you Sheriff for the opportunity to serve the community and the citizens of Anson County. Thank you each and every one of the Commissioners,” responded Owen.
