WADESBORO- Representatives from small businesses across Anson County gathered at SPCC’s Lockhart-Taylor Center on Saturday, March 14 to network with one another as part of the Small Town Community Event hosted by Caroline Harrington and Leslie Lee.
“It’s hosted by me and another girl, Leslie Lee,” explained Caroline Harrington. “She’s got a small business and I have a small business. We put this event together to just try and help other people increase their customer base and network with other people who have small businesses.”
“We’ve got 26 vendors, which I’m very pleased with. We have a young girl that’s 18 and still in high school and she’s doing a boutique type thing. There are all kinds of vendors; we have people who make handmade jewelry, there’s a lady who’s doing towels where she embroiders them. All kinds of stuff,” said Harrington
Harrington is a distributor for Young Living Essential Oils, a company that sells essential oils, blends, and supplements. Lee owns both Old Blue Farms and Our Farmhouse Life. “The farm has eggs and meat and different things and she makes products, like crafts, soap, and lotions,” said Harrington.
This is the first year Lee and Harrington had hosted the event, but they would like to make it a regular occurrence. “We’re hoping to do this a couple of times a year. That’s our intention,” remarked Harrington.
Supporting local businesses is at the heart of the event and, to Harrington, that means, “Putting food on somebody else’s table who lives near me. With my businesses, with Young Living, it is a big company but when you’re an independent distributor and when somebody supports me then it’s putting food on my table, shoes on my children’s feet, or helping me pay my house payment.”
