ANSON — First day school jitters were plentiful across the Anson County School District on its first day back to school on August 28.
Interim Superintendent Brian Ratliff was pleased to see such a strong turn-out by parents and students to the district’s open house events.
“We get butterflies, I don’t care how many years you do this, there is nothing like the first day of school… you don’t sleep well, you have weird dreams and all that is accompanied with that,” Ratliff said.
Carol Gibson said, “I made it to all nine schools for opening day and everything was great. The students seemed happy, the staff was happy, I appreciate all that y’all do.”
Jim Turner said, “I had the privilege of being invited Saturday morning out to Ansononville School for a cleanup. Parents were there and I was very impressed at what I saw and the teamwork. I saw a revived spirit there.”
Board Chairman Dr. George Truman said, “I want to commend the superintendent, and our administrative team, and our principals, and our teachers and all of our staff for a great opening of school. Everything has gone well, from the preparation to the convocation to the preparations of our buildings. I was impressed with how orderly and how well the opening of school went.”
Vice Chairperson Frank Liles appreciated all the back-to-school bashes held in the county to prepare students for another successful school year.
Liles said, “I had the opportunity to take part in several back-to-school bashes. I want to thank our community, our churches for what they are doing for our youth and our school students… the backpacks and school materials are so helpful, thank you so much.”
