WADESBORO — There is no pre-Election Day voting in any Anson County municipal election due to a 2015 vote by each town in which local leaders agreed early voting was not needed, according to Elections Director Sherry Melton.

Melton explained that all towns opted out of absentee by mail — which includes military and overseas — or early voting in the upcoming municipal election.

“Absentee voting is unnecessary in the municipal election and not in the public interest,” wrote the Town of Lilesville in their resolution, signed March 19, 2015.

“There is no impact from not having early voting,” Melton said in an email last week. “Turnout, lines, etc. are the same as before.”

Election results for November 2020 and November 2012 (the last presidential election before the local votes to eliminate early voting) show roughly the same voter turnout rates.

The deadline to register to vote is Friday, October 8. Municipal Election Day is Tuesday, November 2, from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 pm. Morven, Lilesville, Peachland, and Polkton residents will vote at each town’s fire department. Wadesboro residents within the city limits will all vote at SPCC’s Lockhart-Taylor Center in the Ingram Room. There will be a pre-election day board meeting at 4:30 pm on Monday, November 1.
