WADESBORO — Following Black Friday, the Chamber of Commerce celebrated “Small Business Saturday” around Uptown, highlighting the businesses that make Anson County what it is.

American Express selected the Chamber of Commerce to be a “Neighborhood Champion” for the fifth year in a row.

“American Express created Shop Small Saturday in 2010 to help encourage citizens to spend their dollars local. The Anson Chamber not only encourages that on Shop Small Saturday but every day throughout the year,” said Chamber President Shelby Emrich. “We know how important small businesses are to have a thriving and growing community. For every $100 spent at a local business, $68 stays in our local economy. We thank all the citizens of Anson County that made an extra effort to spend local on November 27th. We hope that continues throughout the holiday season.”

Businesses featuring “Small Business Day swag” included Four Branches Sporting Preserve, H.W. Little & Company Hardware, Handmade Creations by Amelia, La Suerte De Sake, Studio 256, Speckled Paw Coffee, and Willow & Vine.

Willow & Vine, run by Hailey Borch Howell and Brittany Smith Powell, hosted a Santa meet and greet, hot cocoa, and clothes for Small Business Saturday. They had doorbusters every hour, BOGO deals for the entire boutique, and gifts to the first fifteen people.

“Small Business Saturday is all about supporting the backbone of your community,” they said. “When you shop local you are investing back into your home town. We are so thankful to be serving our home, and have such wonderful customers. Continue to shop local, eat local, and buy local this holiday season.”

In the spirit of Small Business Saturday, the Chamber of Commerce is also hosting Love Local Anson with Uwharrie Bank and local businesses. Love Local Anson is a shopping extravaganza and giveaway where customers can visit participating businesses and make a purchase for a chance to win prizes.

“The Chamber’s Love Local Anson campaign was created to encourage citizens to shop local and spend local. We have small businesses that have registered with the Chamber to participate,” Emrich said. “All participants have signage that includes a QR Code. Simply scan with your cellphone and answer the five questions for your name to be placed in the drawing (no limit on how many times a person can enter). Thanks to our sponsor, Uwharrie Bank, we will have a drawing on Friday, December 17th for four $250 cash prizes.”

All locally owned and operated businesses can participate, and they will be given both social media promotion and resources. Participating businesses include Four Branches Sporting Preserve, Velvet Creations, H.W. Little & Company Hardware, La Suerte De Sake, Studio 256 Velvet Creations, Lacy’s, Indie Studios, La Fogata Mexican Restaurant, Speckled Paw Coffee, Permanent Solutions Salon, Willow & Vine, Altar’d Hair Studio, Oliver’s Restaurant, and Vineyard at the Old Place.
